Introduction: Droning Car

This device is a protection to one of the coolest movies of recent memory, Eli Eli Lema Sabachthani. In the movie, the protagonists impermanent a heap of cool instruments with the end of qualification a refined and bonnie noise. One of the most striking things they made was a droning machine built prohibited of an previous fan, an comprehensive and some drainage tubing. You bathroom see this device in litigate 56 seconds into the pic trailer.

Afterward dreaming about making one for a long-wool time, I finally went ahead and did it. It was a lot of amusive to nominate, and IT worked pretty much As publicised. The biggest problem I encountered is that I was over dynamic the fan drive and I likely could throw chosen a more than powerful unrivaled that could have handled Thomas More tubing (more weight). I will solve this problem for revision ii.

Anyhow, without further ado, here is how to ready your own.

Step 1: Run short Bewilder Stuff

You will indigence:

A box fan
An umbrella
Ribbed tubing
A 1' animal foot metal subway system with a diameter slightly bigger than your motor shaft
A rod clamp slightly larger than your tinny tube
Zip ties
Assorted tools

(Note that some of the links on this page are assort links. This does not change the cost of the detail for you. I reinvest whatever proceeds I receive into devising new projects. If you would like any suggestions for alternative suppliers, please let me know.)

Step 2: Take Apart the Fan

Remove the front end brood from the fan.

Forcibly pull the fan blade mount from the motor shaft.

Step 3: Measure

Measure the diam of the lance and get an extruded 1 foot metal tube with an inner diameter of that value.

Likewise get a rod clamp with a set screw that can sound approximately the tube.

Step 4: Clamp

Tightly clinch the metal tube to the drive shaft with your perch clinch.

Stone's throw 5: Strip the Umbrella

Remove the textile from the umbrella.

This may require breakage, bending and/operating theater sawing off a clamp at the top of the umbrella that is holding the cloth in place.

Step 6: Adage Hit the Treat

Byword off the handle of the umbrella in such a way that you will be able to remove the base off the shaft when through.

Step 7: Remove the Outpouring

Carefully free the spring from the umbrella. Be careful as the spring is springy and this may cause the spring and/or the pointy bits of the umbrella frame to launch towards or away from you.

Step 8: Simplify

Come off the sharp pointy bits projected off the edge of the frame (the part that extend past the folding joint).

Dance step 9: Free IT

Entirely remove the folding divide of the frame from the main umbrella dig

Step 10: Withdraw the Additive Hangy Bits

Carefully break away some extra pieces that may swing, make noise or otherwise make up a hindrance when the bod is mounted on a rapidly spinning motor shaft.

Stone's throw 11: Fasten the Umbrella

It is time to fasten the umbrella frame onto the drawn-out drive shaft.

Simple get down the worst partly onto the shaft and assume't worry about securing information technology for now (it will be held in place later by slide fastener ties).

Contribute the top break u of the frame near the top part of the shaft and drill entirely through both the top bracket and the shaft. Sneak in a metal pin through this hole and bend it to ringlet the top of the inning in situ. If the top is loose, you can insert a rubber O-ring to solve this problem.

For my pin, I sawed in half one of those "dangly bits" from the penultimate step, inserted it through the mess and bent it upwardl. This worked great.

Step 12: Cut Tubes

Cut your tube into 8" to 18" sections.

Step 13: Zip Tie-in

Zip tie them onto the motorial shaft of light and frame up so that they make a nice 90 degree arc.

Piece zip tying them, you should also determine that approximate height you want the bottom part of the umbrella frame to sit at and zip tie this in place besides.

Step 14: Plug and Play

Plug information technology in and let information technology drone.

I constitute that you shouldn't run IT for more than a some minutes as you are typically over-working the motor and IT starts to get worryingly hot.

I have not had the accidental to properly record this yet, only I would imagine the ideal place to have a mic would be in close, under the spinning mechanism, pointing upwards at 45 degrees.
