My forum and search have all the same not clarified using templates and stationery. It still escapes me since I am beyond the basics hither. I have read about 25 pages about the topic.

I am still looking for additional data on template files in Thunderbird. Currently, I utilize a HTML file as my stationery in Outlook 2003. The template has no images, nevertheless incorporates formatting and colors for a liquid pattern. It has been thoroughly tested across webmail clients and renders fairly well. And so the information sought is not as simple equally inserting image or formatting text with Thunderbird.

My questions relate to using a HTML file (created for Outlook) as a template in Thunderbird. I practice non want to create a new template since the formatting tools are besides rigid in Thunderbird. I have been able to e-mail the template to my Thunderbird inbox (it renders great). Thunderbird even replies with the template. But I take non figured out how to compose new messages with the template of my option. Nor have I discovered information on how Thunderbird generates HTML.

Outlook has astringent idiosyncrasies like calculation font tags to the outgoing email. Basically, it overrides multiple font declarations; it attaches the first font declaration for body to you lot e-mail text; so Geneva, Helvetica, Arial, san serif becomes Geneva; this behavior causes issues on computer without Geneva font.

I am exploring other email clients and discovering what idiosyncrasies causes me the least hurting (they all accept their own pros and cons).

Warning this topic is not for the faint hearted. It involves creating HTML newsletters, yet does not focus on the relevancy of HTML in email. Please let me know if you lot accept insight on this topic.

Where is this allusive template folder?

> Can y'all explain "how Thunderbird generates HTML" a flake more than clearly?

Let me clarify the question by describing my experience in Outlook, which has a HTML generator for HTML emails. This composer adds and changes the static HTML code behind the stationery template depending on the options and formatting choices by the user. Outlook uses font tags for changing the typeface; as oppose to inline styles or span tags. It too adds superfluous code like the following.

<META content="MSHTML 6.00.2900.2627" name=GENERATOR>

And

<Bridge form=000232021-19062005>

This code is not in my original HTML template. I deduct that the latter is a document identification tag since it does non always enclose content nor identified in the style sheet. Comparing the source code between Outlook generated electronic mail and my original template gave me these observations.

Naturally, I am interested in whether Thunderbird exhibits similar beliefs. How does Thunderbird generate emails with a stationery template? Does Thunderbird add superfluous code? What code does information technology generate backside the scenes when you lot modify the font family unit or add a bullet list?

I thought all my Template Folders were in that location when I showtime set-up ThunderBird.
Some Folders I have never made templates for have "Template Folders".
I did see that, what ever Folder y'all are in when yous "Save as Template", is were the the new template is placed,
but if your Local folder has no Template Binder then it is placed in the "Default Folder" that has a "Template Folder".
Neville310; Have you lot plant the binder and/or try what SKopischke has suggested?

Thanks Rice. Your screenshot led me in the correct management. I was looking for the Template directory outside of Thunderbird on the hard disk (like in Outlook). I have several local folders so the template folder did not become readily apparent. Today, I am investigating the Thunderbird's HTML generator.

Where does Thunderbird shop these templates on disk? I want to edit the html with a text editor. Information technology helps optimize the code.

In addition, I hope to observe syncing Thunderbird's data file to my laptop computer and palm. Please let me know if you have boosted suggestions.

Wait at <<<b>this folio</b>>> for information on Thunderbird's files, locations, etc. That should help you identify where your Template folder lives on your system. Information technology will appear as a file without an extension.

Thanks everybody.

I finally found all the profiles and opened the HTML for the template.

I prefer Thunderbird over Outlook, yet it has some interesting behaviors as far equally generating HTML. These behaviors present more questions.

The showtime scenario occurs when you place text beside a anchor reference ( a link). Thunderbird attaches class="moz-txt-link-freetext" to the text. The temple HTML code does non have the following code, then Thunderbird must accept generated the course and anchor tags while generating the HTML. Why?

<a grade="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="Email:»">Email:&raquo;</a>

Now, the obviously text grabs the attributes from the ballast tags. In addition, the link does perform any action. Could one avoid this behavior or should I compromise placing the label as the test portion of the link?

Second, why does Thunderbird convert all colors to RGB from hexadecimal? Outlook exhibits the same beliefs, and then it'southward not a big deal.

color: rgb(42, 131, 193); from color: #2A83C1;

Third, Thunderbird sometimes adds the font tag to the email text while other times it does not. This behavior may affect how webmail renders the HTML especially the email text.

That <TAG> is only added if you lot type the link in directly to the eMail body.
If y'all use the ... Insert --> Link
You lot volition not get the added <TAG>

Test by sending an eMail to your self with both ways of adding the links.

The kickoff situation occurs when a colon follows a right angle quote preceded by an anchor. Remove the colon and Thunderbird does not convert the text to an anchor.
